Yangshuo Climbing Yangshuo, located in Southeast China’s Guangxi Province, was beginning to attract climbers’ attention when the late American Climber Todd Skinner arrived in 1992 and began establishing a number of classic routes on Moon Hill. Since then, Yangshuo has become China’s most established and recognized climbing location for Chinese and international climbers. There are now more than 500 established routes with grades ranging from 5.7 to 5.15. There is limitless potential for more route development on the thousands of untouched limestone karsts dotting the surreal landscape. Most of Yangshuo’s routes are single – pitch bolted sport routes. However, there are a growing number of multi-pitch bolted routes. While there are some established traditional lines, the potential remains for more exploration and development. The rock in Yangshuo is tropical limestone – dark and sharp where exposed to rainfall; lighter and smooth where sheltered from the elements. Yangshuo’s karsts provide the full array of limestone climbing – from big honking jugs to small crimps and slippery slopers. There are also cracks, stalagtites, and tufas to keep things interesting. The following are some popular crags to consider for your next climbing trip to Yangshuo: etc. The above locations can be easily accessed via bicycle, shuttle bus or taxi. |
